Section Description

Our mission is to deliver the highest quality, cutting-edge medical care to critically ill adults, while fostering a dynamic environment that educates and trains the next generation of adult critical care providers and leaders. In alignment with the KFSH&RC’s mission, we are also dedicated to advancing relevant research that drives innovation and excellence in critical care.

We provide comprehensive, evidence-based care for patients with complex medical conditions requiring intensive monitoring and advanced organ support. Our state-of-the-art equipment enables us to deliver cutting-edge treatments, ensuring precise management of critically ill patients.

Our services include advanced hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, renal replacement therapy, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and other life-sustaining interventions tailored to the needs of each patient. We are committed to delivering exemplary critical care, prioritizing patient safety, rapid response, and optimal outcomes through the integration of the latest medical advancements and best practices.

The goals of the Adult Critical Care Section are centered on delivering exceptional, up-to-date care and advancing critical care practices through innovation, research, and education. Our key objectives include:

1. Delivering High-Quality, Cutting-Edge Critical Care
We are committed to providing the highest standard of adult critical care, utilizing the most current medical advancements and evidence-based practices to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

2. Standardizing Care through Best Practices
We strive to ensure consistency and excellence in patient care by implementing standardized care bundles, protocols, pathways, and utilizing power plans. These tools allow for a structured approach, improving clinical decision-making, patient safety, and treatment efficacy.

3. Promoting Research and Innovation
We are dedicated to advancing critical care through research. Our section has established a robust research infrastructure, identifying priority areas for study and fostering collaboration with the Research Centre and other national and international research groups. This commitment to research drives innovation and ensures our practices remain at the forefront of medical science.

4. Enhancing End-of-Life Care
We aim to improve the care of terminally ill patients by promoting education for patients, families, and healthcare providers on end-of-life planning. This includes addressing barriers to advanced directives and creating a supportive environment through a dedicated multidisciplinary team that focuses on the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.

5. Improving Care through Data-Driven Analysis
We focus on continuously improving the quality of care for critically ill patients by integrating data into the hospital’s comprehensive database. By monitoring and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) and rigorously reporting and learning from medical errors, we ensure ongoing improvements in patient safety and care efficiency.

6. Expanding Critical Care Outreach Services
We are committed to extending our critical care expertise beyond the ICU by enhancing outreach services such as the Rapid Response Team and the "ICU Without Walls" program. These initiatives ensure that at-risk patients across the hospital receive timely, expert interventions, preventing the escalation of critical conditions.

Through these comprehensive goals, we aim to establish a culture of excellence in critical care, improving both the quality of patient care and outcomes.
